Levels of Care
For many patients struggling with a drug or alcohol addiction or mental health condition, a compassionate, evidence-based approach is best. In our continuum of care, you’ll receive the level of care best suited to your needs at your current stage of recovery. The levels of care available at The Recovery Village Kansas City include inpatient rehab, PHP and IOP levels of care for substance abuse treatment, and an inpatient residential program for those with mental health disorders.Â
Medical Detox
During medical detox, patients living with addiction receive around-the-clock support, medical care and medications for withdrawal symptoms as needed.
Inpatient Rehab for Substance Abuse
Inpatient rehab is a high level of care, so patients live onsite. The environment is structured and entirely focused on healing from your addiction.
Inpatient Rehab for Mental Health
Inpatient rehab helps patients focus entirely on addressing their mental health condition. They live onsite at our professional treatment center, then transition to outpatient care in the community.
Partial Hospitalization Programs (PHPs)
As a step down from residential substance abuse treatment, a PHP offers patients more independence and free time as they begin self-managing their recovery.
Intensive Outpatient Programs (IOPs)
With more freedom and flexibility from residential or PHP care, an IOP offers a balance between intensive addiction treatment and managing the outside responsibilities in your daily life.
Dual Diagnosis Treatment
It’s very common to have co-occurring mental health disorders along with an addiction to drugs or alcohol. Dual diagnosis care treats both simultaneously to optimize your outcomes in recovery.
Aftercare
After completing a rehab program, you receive continued support through treatment provider referrals, information about support groups, relapse prevention plans and access to additional resources.
Medically-Assisted Treatment (MAT)
For severe opioid or alcohol use disorders, approved medications may be beneficial when medically appropriate. Medication-assisted treatment reduces the risk of relapse and cravings.
What to Expect
When you’re preparing for a rehab stay, knowing what to bring can help things go smoothly for you. During your treatment experience, we recommend that you bring the following:

- Documentation: A picture or copy of your vaccine card, picture ID, necessary travel documents, relevant medical records and a list of medical providers and family members with their contact information
- Financial: a form of payment such as cash, credit card or debit card. You can bring some additional cash (no more than $200). You can also bring a prepaid Visa gift card used for purchases facilitated by staff on your behalf.
- Electronics: You can bring your cell phone, e-reader, iPod, MP3 player, earbuds, or headphones.
- Clothing: Bring seasonally appropriate clothing. You should remember a sweater or jacket, long pants or shorts, socks and undergarments. You can bring a hat and warm gloves if needed, tennis shoes, sandals or flip flops, comfortable workout clothes and sleepwear. Clothing, including workout items, should be discrete.

You can bring a toothbrush, unopened toothpaste, lotion, lip balm, disposable razors, blow drying and styling tools and feminine products. Also permitted are sunscreen and skincare.

Frequently Asked Questions
Here are some of the most common questions about treatment at The Recovery Village Kansas City.
Most health insurance policies will partially or completely cover addiction or mental health treatment services. The Recovery Village Kansas City accepts most major insurance plans except Medicare and Medicaid. Our team can work with you to verify what your insurance may cover. If services aren’t covered, we can help you locate other facilities that may accept your policy, or we can work together on private pay options.
Since our treatment programs are customized to your individual needs, the treatment length can differ. For those with substance use disorder, factors in how long addiction treatment takes include the program you choose and the severity of your addiction. Most people’s medical detox stays take 7–10 days. Inpatient substance abuse treatment programs usually last at least 30 days and outpatient programs can last for three months or longer. Subacute inpatient mental health treatment often lasts one to two weeks. Aftercare services are an indefinite source of support for your continued recovery.
Certain national laws protect you if you go to rehab, so you don’t have to fear losing your job. The Americans with Disabilities Act (ADA) and the Family and Medical Leave Act (FMLA) are two such laws. While these protections exist, there are limitations that could mean you don’t qualify. If, for example, you use substances actively while at work in a drug-free workplace, you could lose your job.
For the safety and privacy of all patients, cell phones will be securely stored upon arrival. After a 72-hour stabilization period to focus on your recovery, you may make outside phone calls during specified times each week, at your therapist’s discretion. Loved ones may also visit during family weekends, or they may participate in family therapy with you. Our treatment team may discourage contact with friends or family if they believe it could disrupt your recovery and progress.
