Our free & confidential 24-hour addiction hotline for family members, friends, and teens with drug addiction and abuse.

Picking up the phone is the best way to start the process of detox and rehabilitation.

Often the barrier to making that call is the unknowns that go along with it. To help overcome such hesitation we’ve provided answers to some common questions below.

What is The Recovery Village Helpline?

The Recovery Village addiction helpline is led by helpful representatives awaiting your call. Many of our helpline operators and facility employees are also in recovery, so they can empathize and help you or a loved one navigate this journey comfortably.

“Alcohol and drugs stripped everything away from me. I know I wanted to be heard. I felt like nobody understood, so it’s good to be able to say I do understand.”
– Stephanie, The Recovery Village Helpline Operator, In Recovery Since 2013

What Is a Teen Addiction Hotline?

Addiction hotlines exist to provide free and confidential guidance for various conditions, including drug or alcohol use disorders. The primary goal of a teen addiction hotline is to be available for teens and parents to contact an organization for help. Free hotlines are typically available 24 hours a day and are established to address a specific substance use disorder.

When Should I Call a Teen Addiction Hotline?

When a parent or teen recognizes that they have an addiction, they can reach out to a teen addiction 24-hour hotline. If a teen or their parents are seeking advice or counseling regarding teen addiction treatment, speaking with someone from a teen addiction hotline can help them find options for treatment programs.

If the teen with addiction is experiencing a life-threatening situation, however, they or their parent should contact emergency services immediately. A teen addiction hotline cannot provide emergency medical services and shouldn’t be used as a resource during a life-threatening situation, like a drug overdose or a case of alcohol poisoning.

If I Call, What Questions Will They Ask?

Every hotline is different, so the questions asked will inevitably vary. However, most hotlines ask similar questions to gauge the severity of your substance use to help find the treatment that works for you. At The Recovery Village, our helpline operator will likely ask some variation of the following questions:

  • Verifying the caller or teen with an addiction is not currently experiencing a life-threatening situation
  • What symptoms of addiction have been identified
  • If the teen with an addiction has a co-occurring disorder like an eating disorder, depression or another mental health disorder
  • Whether the teen with the addiction is ready to start addiction treatment
  • If the organization’s treatment programs can be effective for the teen

When I Call, Is the Conversation Confidential?

The Recovery Village’s 24-hour, toll-free teen hotline is 100% confidential. Any path forward needs to begin with mutual trust. Part of that mutual trust is confidentiality.

If you are calling a national or local drug helpline, it is recommended that you ask about confidentiality when calling that number.

Can I Start the Detox & Rehab Process at the Time of My Call?

Yes! In fact, we encourage our callers to begin treatment as soon as possible. Once you’ve decided that you want to set foot on the road to recovery, our intake coordinators can connect you with care at one of our many teen rehab facilities within just a few hours. Change your life with a call to our helpline, free of charge.
